Located in the middle of The International Wildlife Refuge of the Detroit River, Grosse Ile is a beautiful residential community and ideally situated for our charters to enjoy anything from a trip upriver for sights and dinner, to a local cruise to Dunbar Bay to go paddle boarding for an up close view of wildlife amidst the sunken dredges.

Dunbar Bay

Best Times: May-September

A protected harbor where you may relax at anchorage or choose to embark on a stand up paddle board tour of the interior. Captain Julie will take you on a guided tour to meet your skill level. Imagine the hustle and bustle of what was once a working community operating to open up the navigable waterways for shipping. The walls around this bay made up of the chunks of limestone that were blown from the river bottom to accommodate the draft of the freighters that still carry their bulk products to cities all around the Great Lakes.

Sugar Island

Best Times: May-September

This may be the best, biggest beach in the area. Once home to a dance hall and amusement park with steamboat excursions on historic vessels such as the SS Tashmoo carrying passengers from Wyandotte and Detroit to spend a day seaside. Bring a picnic blanket or walk the shores searching for treasures while the cool lake breezes counter the warm summer sun. Ask Captain Julie about the fossil beads found here. You might get hooked.

Restaurants on the River

Best Times: May-September

So many to choose from! There's nothing like a trip on the river, and cruising into a dock to enjoy first class dining with friends.

  • Smokies on the Water on the West side of Grosse Ile is a short trip for a great selection of craft beers and unbeatable pizza.

  • Up the Trenton Channel further north is Wyandotte where Portofino's offers fine Italian cuisine and seafood. Outdoor patio seating is available.

  • The Waterfront is a little further north and boasts live music, a cigar lounge, and excellent views while you enjoy cocktails and a first class American style menu including apps like lobster crustini or entrees like filet mignon or sauteed lake perch.

Your tour may take you further north upriver to take in the sights of the city of Detroit, and even a stop for dinner and/or drinks via Uber. It's all up to you.
